Defence Supply Chain for SME businesses

Managing the complexity of defence supply chains and government departments can be challenging for businesses who have a product or service that has the potential for providing Defence capability. With experience as an accredited Defence improvement program (SCIP) facilitator under the Defence Industry Innovation Centre and graduate of the Defence & Industry Study Course (DISC), Adam has experience and contacts that can help to approach this challenging market.
Defence Industry Policy Statement (DIPS)
Released in early 2016, the federal governement released the DIPS, detailing the future strategy for building capability in the Australian defence supply chain, around the same time the Tasmanian Department of State Growth released the Tasmanian policy (refer links below).
Defence Industrial Capbility Plan (DICP)
Released during 2018, the federal governement released the DICP, detailing the strategy for building Sovereign Industrial Capability in Australian industry, supported by Soveriegn Industral Capbility Priority grant program, due for release in the 2nd half of 2018.
Key areas for SME businesses are:
The formation of the Centre for Defence Industry Innovation (CDIC) to drive the strategic partnership between Defence and industry, involving industry in the governance of industry programs and to provide a range of business and skilling services . Some of the services offered include;
  • Advisory services to Defence industry to assist enterprises through Defence Industry Change Plans (DICP)  to become ‘export ready’ and globally competitive.
  • Supplier Continuous Improvement Program (SCIP) aimed at systematically embedding corporate, operational and continuous improvement capability as required by global Defence businesses
  • Industry Support programs including offering market advice to help guide potential export opportunities, facilitating Defence trade missions  and facilitating interaction with the Defence Export Controls Branch
Released in 2016, detailing four major intiatives:
  • Support the development of the specialist skills and training required for defence
  • Promote the defence contracting capability and capacity of Tasmanian businesses 
  • Attract defence focused investment and enterprises to Tasmania 
  • Leverage off Tasmania’s status as the Southern Ocean and Antarctic Gateway
